YELLOW DAL| DAL FRY RECIPE

dal
Yellow dal is a staple dish in Indian homes . It is simple and comforting dish which goes well with rice and roti too.  I used moong dal in this recipe, you can replace it with toor dal too.
Check out my Masoor dal tadka and dabba style dal tadka.
Preparation time: 5 mins | Cooking time: 20 minutes | Serves 3-4

INGREDIENTS
YELLOW MOONG DAL(PASIPARUPPU) 1 CUP
OIL 1 TSP
MILK 3TBSLP
SAMBAR POWDER 1 1/4 TSP(CAN REPLACE WITH REDCHILLI POWDER AND CORIANDER POWDER)
JEERAGAM(CUMIN SEEDS) 1TSP
ONION 1 NO(CHOPPED)
TOMATO 1 NO(CUT INTO THIN STRIPES)
TURMERIC POWDER A PINCH
KASTURI METHI A PINCH

In a Pressure Cooker put oil and add jeeragam. When i splutters, add the onions and tomatoes one by one.Just saute for 2 mins.
Then add the sambar powder and add 2 cups of water. Add the turmeric powder. Let this boil for 3-5 mins. Then add the moong dal and add salt. Close the cooker with lid and cook till 6-7 whistles.
When it is done add the milk and boil for 2 mins. Finally add kasturi methi and garnish with coriander  leaves.
Adding milk gives a creamy texture and kasturi methi gives an exotic flavor.
dal
Serve hot with roti/rice.
