I wanted to try out Biryani using seeraga samba rice, a unique variety of rice used in South India for making Biryanis. Millet Curd rice recipe with step by step pictures and video, a popular South Indian rice variety also called as Thayir sadam. For us South Indians, especially the Tamil Brahmin people, curd rice is a must one during our lunch meal. I have already posted a curd rice recipe and also shared the Temple style curd rice recipe. Generally raw rice or sona masoori rice is best suitable for making curd rice. Similarly we can make curd rice using Millets too. Varagu | kodo millet is the closest variety equivalent to raw rice. I make curd rice using millet many times at home . Even i have posted that in my Lunch menu 9 too. This Millet Curd rice i have done in my cookery demo once here in Singapore. Cashew pulao| Kaju pulao recipe with step by step pictures and video, a super easy rice variety, perfect for lunch box too. Similar to jeera pulao, peas pulao this cashew pulao is a rich pulao variety, pairs well with rajma masala and dal varieties. Usually i prefer one pot rice varieties but i made this cashew pulao on stove top. Recently tried cooking basmati on stove top and loved the entire output so followed the same process. Raw mango pulihora| Mango pulihora| mamadikaya pulihora an easy no onion no garlic chitranna recipe, using raw mango and other freshly ground spices. This South Indian rice variety is a perfect lunch box recipe too. Generally the raw mango rice is called as Mango pulihora. I saw the name in an instagram page some time back and wanted to try this using the spices we use for the Iyengar puliyodarai. As tomorrow is Ugadi festival i thought i will try this Mango pulihora today and share the recipe of the same here.
Raw mangoes are in season now and generally we make cut mango pickle or avakkai orugai using raw mango. For the Tamil new year and Telugu new year( ugadai pandigai) we make Chitranna| variety rice in the menu along with Mango pachadi and neem flower rasam. Sweet corn fried rice, an easy fried rice recipe with step by step pictures, perfect for lunch box too. Veg fried rice i make at home at least once in a week for kids lunch box. Though I follow the usual veg fried rice recipe, as the taste of the kids change, i customized it as per their requirements. Both of them don't like the pepper taste in fried rice and i started using the Thai red chili or the green chili for spiciness. Recently when i ran out of other veggies and had only a bit of capsicum and frozen corn left, i made this sweet corn fried rice for the kids lunch box. If you are looking for a healthy and easy pulao recipe, then try this methi matar pulao. You can use frozen peas or fresh peas which is in season now. I have posted corn methi pulao, this simple pulao recipe is similar to that one, but with slight variations. Methi and matar is always a winning combo, i have already posted methi matar malai recipe. If you have a fresh bunch of methi leaves at home, then try this pulao. Usually whenever i buy methi leaves from the market, i make methi thepla, which we all love. Though i love the methi pakora kadhi but sometimes i feel lazy to make it. Do try this one pot meal and let me know how it turned out.

Basmati rice 1 cup Oil 3 tsp Butter 1 tblsp Green chili 2 Cloves 3 (optional) Cumin seeds 1 tsp Onion 1 thinly sliced Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp Water 1 and 1/4 cup Salt as needed Green peas 1/2 cup Garam masala 1 tsp (optional) Methi leaves 1/2 cup (chopped) Coriander leaves 1/2 cup (finely chopped) Mint leaves 1/4 cup (finely chopped)

Method :
Wash and soak the basmati rice in 1 and 1/4 cup water for 20 minutes.
In a pressure cooker add the butter and ghee.
Add in the cloves, cumin seeds and slit green chili.
Saute for a few seconds and add in the onions.
Cook till translucent.
Add the ginger garlic paste and cook till the raw smell goes off.
Cook in a low flame. Ensure not to burnt it.
Add the chopped methi leaves, coriander leaves and mint leaves.
Saute for a minute.
Add the green peas. I used frozen peas, you can add fresh peas too.
Add salt.
Add garam masala, if adding and mix well.
Add the soaked rice and the water.
Mix well and cover the cooker.
Let this cook till 1 whistle and then simmer it to the lowest flame possible for 10 minutes.
Switch off the flame after 10 minutes.
Once the pressure is automatically released, open the cooker.
Gently mix the rice without breaking it.
Serve hot with any raita of your choice.
We had with dhaba style paneer with the methi matar pulao.

You can add carrot and beans along with green peas.
Along with cloves few other whole spices like cardamom, bay leaf, star anise can be added.

Potato pulao recipe, a simple one pot pulao recipe with potato and mint leaves and does not involve any grinding process. A perfect bachelor friendly mint flavored aloo pulao, makes a perfect lunch box recipe or a weeknight dinner. We as a family are a big fan of one pot meal and so i make some combo for lunch box or on a weeknight for dinner. If you do not want potato in this recipe, replace with green peas or other veggies according to your choice.

Chutney pulao recipe, easy one pot meal using left over green chutney, a quick fix lunch or dinner. Last week i was totally bored to make the dinner and also clueless as what to make for dinner too. Finally in the last minute saw some left over green chutney and added some additions to that and delicious chutney pulao was ready in 20 minutes time. I posted the same on Jeyashri's kitchen Instagram feed too. Many asked for the recipe with measurements and i had some more left over chutney after making the dahi idli post and used up the same for making this chutney pulao recipe. Added some carrots and peas to this to make it a complete meal. You can add some fresh paneer too or serve with a mixed vegetable sabzi.

Raw mangoes somehow we get so often in Singapore, as it is in season everywhere i wanted to post recipes using raw mango too. Generally we make South Indian version of raw mango rice, but this is a North Indian pulao recipe and it tasted so yum too. I just came across this name of Raw mango pulao in a restaurant menu very long back and just noted down the name. While going through that notebook, i was reminded of that and just tried it randomly and it was well received by every one at home. The crunchiness of the cashew nuts complimented the mango pulao and it paired well with Dabba style dal.

Garlic rice recipe, a very simple garlic flavored rice made using Brown Sona masoori rice, healthy lunch box recipes. Recently we have switched to brown rice. Actually i tried many varieties of brown rice but somehow not satisfied with any thing. Poha veg fried rice with Video, the popular Indo Chinese recipe made using rice and veggies. I replaced rice with poha| aval in tamil | rice flakes and it turned out quite well. As it is very simple and easy to make it is a bachelor friendly recipe too. Few months back when i was chatting with my cousin, she told she won a cookery competition,themed Poha recipes and Poha fried rice was made by her friend. The idea was so interesting and i wanted to try it at home. I got Getti aval | Thick poha from the nearby Indian shop and made it today. I served it for kids and was waiting for their feedback, but they were busy eating the fried rice. When i asked about them they said it is nice as always, and when i said it is made with poha and not rice, they were surprised. We couldn't find any difference with the addition of poha in the veg fried rice. Try this at home and let me know how it turned out. Also check:
Bisi bele bath, using millets with step by step pictures. Bisi bele bath is a popular Karnataka dish, made usingMillets and toor dal and other freshly ground Sambar masala. I have already posted my version of Bisi bele bath recipe with video, but i don't claim it as authentic Karnataka recipe. This Millet Bisi bele bath recipe i have already given in my First cook book on Millets, NeengalumSamaikalam Sirudhaniyam. Recently i tried a slightly different version of bisi bele bath, which i learnt from my co sister. I have tried this some time back using rice and shared in Jeyashris kitchen Instagram too. I generally use home made sambar powder and fresh spices for making bisi bele bath, but she always uses only fresh masala. I generally don't add cinnamom or clove in Bisi bele bath as my family don't like it that way. Kids love this version too, but today when i made this recipe by replacing millets with rice, i was not sure as how they will respond. They enjoyed the Millet Bisi bele bath and we hadYam Tawa fry and cut mango pickle to pair with this hot hot bisi bela bath | sambar rice.
Millet capsicum rice recipe,with video. Millet capsicum rice with Idli Molagapodi, a perfect lunch box recipe. Recently when we went for a day trip to a nearby island with friends,one of them was casually sharing about this Capsicum rice with idli molagapodi. It was quite interesting and i immediately tried it the next day and posted in Jeyashris kitchen Instagram.The recipe uses Varagu millet and you can replace with any millet of your choice. This sounded so simple and immediately made this chilli garlic fried rice. Kids had this when they are back from school. Both of them loved this fried rice and it was not too spicy.
