Nungu Rose milk, Palm fruit rose milk

Nungu rose milk | Palm fruit rose milk recipe with video and step wise pictures , summer coolant recipe made using nungu and rose milk syrup. Rose milk is one of my most favorite drink from the childhood. My mom used to make rose milk for me almost all the days during summer. Most of the days morning after getting up we used to take rose milk only. I got introduced to Rooh afza after moving to Singapore. Though i like it, i still love the rose syrup more.
Also i have seen roohafza with watermelon drink popularly called as Mohabat ka sarbath. Here in the local shops they sell the Malay special rose milk called Bandung. But i always love the South Indian Rose milk.
I saw this rose milk syrup from Sri Murugan stores, Singapore and wanted to try it out.
I actually planned to make rose milk ice cream. But i have got fresh nungu from the Indian shop, so i am so tempted to make this Nungu rose milk. It was so refreshing and perfect for this hot summer. Myself and my daughter enjoyed it so much. Also check out the Nungu sarbath recipe too.
Friends in Singapore, we get this rose milk syrup in Sri murugan stores Singapore. They have a wide range of Indian grocery and you can place the orders through their Android and iOs app too. Orders are delivered at your door steps island wide.

Mango Piyush recipe, mango recipes

Mango Piyush is an authentic Maharastrian cold drink, made using Shrikand | Amarkhand, thick buttermilk and milk with a dash of nutmeg, saffron and cardamom, as main ingredients. Piyush is generally a very thick and creamy drink. Even Piyush is a popular drink in Gujarati cuisine too.  Last year when my friend's in laws family from Mumbai, visited here, her sister in law was telling me about Sabudana Thalipeeth and Mango piyush recipe. I was too fascinated by the recipe and wanted to try this during the mango season. Genrally Piyush is made using Shrikand, but during mango season we can make it using Mango shrikand. I used store bought Mango shrikand recipe, you can make your own Shrikand at home. Generally Piyush is made during fasting, since it is creamy, it will be quite a filling drink.

Dry fruits sweet lassi | Lassi recipe

Dry fruits lassi using Alvas Natural curd

Recipe of how to make Dry fruits sweet lassi with step by step pictures and video
Lassi is a very popular, traditional yogurt based drink in India. I have already posted Rose lassi, kesar lassi and few more yogurt based Indian drink recipes. For this recipe i used Alvas yogurt (available in Singapore only) and it turned out so tasty and creamy. The Dry fruits lassi was loved by everyone at home and it was quite filling too. Sometimes during summer, we don't tend to feel like standing in the kitchen for a long time but need something chill and filling for the tummy. This dry fruits lassi can be made on such days even for breakfast too.

For my Readers in Singapore, though we get lot of yogurt in Singapore, the reason why I choose
Alvas curd is :
-Freshly made daily in Singapore.
-Made from Fresh New Zealand Cow’s milk and not buffalo
milk(toned milk)
-Naturally rich, thick and creamy without any chemicals, thickeners

Places to purchase Alvas Natural Curd:
-Mustafa Centre
-Sheng Siong Supermarkets and Prime super markets.
-Most Indian Grocery stores( including Sri Murugan stores)

Cold coffee recipe

Cold coffee recipe, I am a big fan of filter coffee but generally i prefer my coffee super hot. For the past few weeks, my daughter Varsha started making coffee on her own and she was pestering me that she will make a post on jeyashri's kitchen as she has holidays now. We took a video for making cold coffee but it got corrupted and we couldn't edit that. Luckily i captured the step wise pictures on how to make cold coffee. Now over to Varsha...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Heyy guys I hope all of you are having a BREW-tiful day! (Anyone got the pun?) I’m back with another post after nearly…2years!? Anyways after lots of convincing Amma has finally let me post something on her blog.

I recently started drinking coffee (filter coffee only, I hate instant coffee) and I have fallen in love with it. I have also learnt how to make it on my own so I don’t have to pester Amma every time I want to have it. So when I make my own coffee I like to experiment with the coffee decoction and try out random combinations. This recipe was one of my experiments which turned out really well. I liked it a LATTE and I hope you do to!!

Mango margarita | Virgin margarita recipe

Mango margarita is a mexican cocktail , generally mixed with alcohol. The classic way of serving the margarita is by dipping the rim of the serving glass in salt. Last year when we friends went out for a dinner, one of them ordered this margarita and the salt dipped part was so interesting. I wanted to try the Virgin Margarita recipe at home and finally tried with mango. It was so refreshing and i would say it's a perfect summer drink. Try this easy mango margarita recipe at home and get refreshed.

Notes:
  1. Instead of sugar you can make a simple syrup by dissolving sugar and water in equal proportions. Just boil sugar and water till sugar dissolves.
  2. You can use any fruit of your choice. Strawberry, watermelon will go well with this.
  3. For serving instead of salt you can use coarse sugar or mix red chili powder and salt too.

Soda Sarbath recipe | Nannari Sarbath

Soda sarbath |nannari sarbath, the name itself gives me lots of childhood memories. We used to get this soda sarbath in a near by potti kadai (petty shop) in my Home town in Madurai. They have few varieties of syrup to add to the sarbath but we love this nannari syrup to be added to the sarbath. My mama used to take us to the shop in his 2 wheeler and we love to see the way the shop keeper is making it. Especially the sound he makes while mixing it in the last is so fascinating for us those days. Most of our summer holidays will be spent like this. We will eagerly look forward for mama to come and take us to the shop. When i bought nannari sarbath 2 days back during our visit to Mustafa, i decided to make this soda sarbath. After finishing the video of soda sarbath today, i tasted a sip from that and immediately the taste brought back so many childhood memories. The 2 wheeler, mama, our trip to the shop, the shopkeeper, the sound of mixing.... i relished the soda sarbath by thinking of my childhood memories.

Beetroot chaas|Chukandar chaas is a healthy summer cooler recipe. It is similar to the masala chaas but the addition of beetroot makes it more healthy. Beetroot, yogurt and few spices, just mix everything and consume on hot sunny day. We south Indians make neer mor during summer. My mom used to make neer mor in the morning, during summer days and keep it in a big jug in the refrigerator. We have to finish that by evening. Those days we are never exposed to any aerated or bottle juices. Also we have 4 coconut trees in the house and we used to get fresh organic ilaneer from the home grown trees. Stay hydrated in the summer by taking home made summer coolers.

beetroot-chaas 1
  • Grind the beetroot, yogurt, green chili, ginger, cumin seeds along with salt.

Fruit popsicle recipe | Summer coolers

Fruit popsicle

As Varsha is posting for the past 2 sundays some interesting popsicles , today she is sharing the furit popsicle recipe, which we tried even last year too. We are going for a holiday and i have scheduled some posts till the end of the month. Please bear with any delay in replying your mails or comments. Over to Varsha.....
It is really important to stay hydrated and healthy during summer. I usually find myself opening the
fridge every 2 minutes to look for something cold and nice to drink and since we have holidays now, all that my brother and I eat are chips, cookies and other junk food. Amma keeps insisting that we should eat fruits instead of all that. But do we listen to her? NOO ,So I came up with this popsicle. So the next time you crave for something nice and cold have this popsicle instead. It's healthy and refreshing at the same time. BTW this is the last post of the SUNNY SUNDAY POPSICLE series, as we are going for holiday. But don't worry I'll be back with other posts some time later. BYE BYE.

Dates popsicle recipe | Easy popsicle recipes

Dates popsicle

Sunny Sunday popsicles post by my daughter Varsha. Check out her coconut lemonade popsicle recipe.  Over to Varsha....
Today is my parents wedding anniversary, so I thought I would post a 'perfect date' recipe. Do you guys get the pun? I am not so good with puns or writing introductions. Since the Ramadan Month is starting tomorrow, Amma suggested that I post a dates recipe. Nowadays it rains quite often but you don't need a sunny weather to eat popsicle, right? Well at least I don't think so. Popsicles can be eaten anytime, anywhere. I am the kind of person who eats ice cream when its raining outside.  This is a perfect recipe for people with a sweet tooth. Enough said,  let's move on to the PERFECT DATE RECIPE. Check out the eggless dates cake recipe and dates kheer recipe too.

Avocado Milkshake recipe | With video of how to cut avocado

avocado milkshake

Avocado Milkshake i first tasted in Singapore , food republic in Vivo city. I was so curious to taste the fruit when we moved here and had it first,in the form of milkshake . Later once Varsha learnt some Glucamole, an avocado dip from school and we had with tortila chips. I bought the avocados to make the avocado ice cream but finally ended up in making the milkshake recipe without ice cream. Try this easy and healthy milkshake recipe at home. I have made a video on how to cut avocado, which will be useful for beginners. Check out my mango milkshake, oreo milkshake recipe.
Choose the dark black avocado, which is the ripe one. If the outer cover is green in colur it is unripe, keep it outside for 2-3 days and once it is becomes dark and soft to touch, you can cut that.

Grape popsicle recipe | Summer cooler recipes

From my childhood i love black grapes very much. During my childhood days we get the black grapes which has seeds in it. My sister doesn't like that and so i always get a big portion for me. Also i generally do not discad the seed while eating, i just carefully bite it and swallow woth the seed. My sister used to tease me, that I will get a grapes tree from my tummy as i am swallowing the seeds. Later we started gettign the seedless varitey. Even after coming to Singapore, i buy the grapes regularly. I have posted a grape orange juice recipe too few years back. When i was casaully waiting for a friend near a shop, i happened to see these umbrella shaped ice lolly moulds in a small shop nearby. So picked this up and made thsi grape popsicle. Orange Slushie recipe | Summer cooler recipes

orange slush recipe

Slush | Slushie is a crushed ice drink, combined with any fruit juice and soda. We get slurpy ( a brand of slush) available in all 7- 11 stores here. Though i don't buy that for kids always but rarely i get it for them. Last sumer itself i wanted to try this at home but some how i missed. Yesterday when i saw akid holding the slurpee in hands in the super market, i thought i will make slush at home and surprise the kids. I picked up fresh oranges and soda from the super market and made it for kids. It was a huge hit at home. Instead of buying the ones at store atleast once in a while i can make it for them at home. Of course as a mother i know fresh fruits are good for the health, i do give them a lot but once in a while pamper them with these types of juices. See the notes section below for healthy variations.
