Murungakeerai Soup | Drumstick leaves soup, recipe with step wise pictures, a healthy, diabetic friendly soup, perfectly suits for lactating mothers too, made using drumstick leaves. Recently i got a bunch of drumstick leaves, called as Murungakeerai in Tamil, from a home garden. The Organic leaves were so fresh and usually i made murungaikeerai poriyal | Thuvattal and sometimes add in Adai too. When i asked some recipe suggestions using the leaves in my Instagram and facebook story, i got loads of response from readers. Thank you everyone for the overwhelming response. Few interesting recipes i chose from that and i thought i will share it here with you all. Stay tuned for more interesting recipes using murungakeerai.
Drumstick leaves 2 cups
Small onion 5
Garlic 5 cloves
Tomato 1/2
Water 3 cups
Pepper powder to taste
Salt as needed
Butter 1 tsp

Butter 1 tsp
Method :
- In a pressure cooker add 1 tsp of butter and add the small onions and garlic.
- Saute for 2 minutes.
- Add the tomato, you can roughly chop the tomato and add.
- Saute for a minute.
- Add the drumstick leaves.
- Mix well. Add 2 cups of water.
- Pressure cook this 2 whistles.
- Once done, release the pressure and allow this to cool completely.
- Strain the water and keep aside, we will use this later.
- Grind the cooked mixture into a fine paste.
- Add the reserved water and 1 cup of water.
- Strain the ground mixture through a sieve.
- Extract the juice and discard the rest.
- Add pepper and salt to this and bring to this to a boil.
- Once it starts boiling switch off the flame.
- Murungakeerai soup is ready to serve.
Notes:
- You can add fresh cream to this soup in the last stage.
- To add thickness to the soup, you can add 1 tblsp of yellow moong dal while cooking the drumstick leaves soup.
Method with step by step pictures :

Looks so yummy. I even add a piece of carrot along with the leaves,it enhancess the taste.
