Shikanji recipe | Indian lemonade | Summer coolers recipe

Shikanji

Shikanji is a popular summer drink of North India. It is also called as Indian lemonade. I have first tasted this 2 years back in a birthday party. It tasted like lemonade but was bit different too. Then another friend told me that it is Shikanji, a popular drink of North india. Also she told me the ingredients of the shikanji too.  After that i tasted a similar one in Pizza hut last year in India as masala lemonade. It is almost the same but they have added plain soda to that . Past few days we are experiencing a very hot sunny days and suddenly i remembered of this drink and made it at home. Everyone liked it and i thought i will post the recipe of shikanji here. Stay hydrated this summer by taking lots of water, watermelon, cucumber, ash gourd and lemons. Avoid eating very spicy food. Banana almond milkshake is a very healthy breakfast smoothie for kids. The best way to make them eat nuts and fruits is by making a milkshake and giving it for breakfast or once they come back from school. Especially, during the exam time and summer also at it s peak, this is the best one to have for breakfast. Also if your kids are fussy to eat breakfast in the morning, make this smoothie and give, it will be quite filing too. Scroll down to the notes section for more variations. Molaga Thokku recipe | Green chili pickle

Pacha milagaai thokku | green chili pickle is an easy thokku made with green chili and this is an ultimate combo for curd rice and dosa. My grandma is a great fan of this thokku and always make this in bulk and keep . But consuming this daily is not so good for health as it generates heat in the body. Though my mom tell her, not to eat this often, she never listens. When i started making this molaga thokku today, and when the aroma of the thokku started coming, it brought back all the memories of my childhood days. It has been a long time since i  was planning to post this recipe in jeyashri's kitchen. Last week i picked up nice fresh green chilies from the market and finally made it today. The tamarind and  jaggery balance the spiciness of the thokku.
Check out my puli milagaai recipe too.

Pumpkin sauce Pasta | Penne pasta in pumpkin sauce

Pumpkin sauce pasta
Pumpkin sauce pasta is a easy pasta recipe made with pumpkin puree as a main base. I have already posted home made pasta sauce recipe and white sauce pasta. This pumpkin pasta sauce i have once tried, very long back but somehow didn't turn out well. Last week when i was looking for some pasta recipes, my friend told me this recipe, which she recently learnt from her friend. She personally tried it at home and sent me pictures of them too. So i tried this today and it was very yum. The pumpkin sauce pasta was very creamy and at the same time was not bland. Generally creamy pasta will be bit bland and especially for us Indians, who are used to spicy food, can't eat the bland pasta.  Try this for a weeknight dinner and let me know how they turned out.  This is truly a kids perfect pasta recipe. How to freeze legumes | Frozen beans

frozen beans

Salads always find a place in my everyday meal. I just take a little portion of some salad into my food daily. After registering into this Bluetiful world, almost all days my dinner will be salads. That doesn't mean i am crash dieting. I eat rice for lunch but everything in moderate quantity. The salad is quite filling one. I add a portion of legumes into the salad to make it more filling. Also for vegetarians, dals and legumes are good source of protein. So to make your salad filling and healthy legumes such as chickpeas, rajma, black channa etc. But the main problem with me is i keep on forgetting to soak the legumes overnight. Once a friend of mine told me she always soak in bulk and freeze it so that whenever kids ask her for chole, rajma masala or kala channa masala it will be easy for her to do. From that day i am using the same technique for my salads. Later i started telling to my friends who are registered to this bluetiful world. Then thought i can post this here, so that many of you can be benefited by this.  Check out my post on  salad dressing ideas. Also check the other salad recipes in jeyashris kitchen.
