ARISI UPMA RECIPE | HOW TO MAKE ARISI UPMA

Arisi upma recipe

Arisi Upma is a very popular and traditional Tamil Brahmin recipe. It is made
using raw rice and lentil (toor dal). It is a very simple and flavourful one-pot meal,
generally made on fasting days. It makes its presence in my kitchen atleast once a
week for dinners as we all love arisi upma. In the olden days, people made arisi
upma in a brass vessel called as uruli. Even today, my mother and mother in law
continue to make arisi upma in this vessel. My mother, being a working woman moved
on to making arisi upma in a pressure cooker as it was easier and time saving. I
learnt to make this version from her and was totally amazed with the outcome. For a
better texture and flavor, I always add a handful of grated coconut to this arisi upma,
an expert advice given to me by my grandmother. Moving on to the recipe.
Coconut chutney and Kalyana Gotsu pairs well with Arisi upma.

IDLI MILAGAI PODI RECIPE | SIDE DISH FOR IDLI|DOSA

Molaga podi recipe updated with video

Idli milagai podi

Milagai podi- a spicy, flavourful powder made by coarsely grinding roasted lentils
and dry chillies. Milagai podi or Molaga podi or Idli podi (commonly referred in
restaurants) is a quick and easy recipe to pair with idli or dosa. We loved this since
our childhood days and have always insisted on having idlis and dosais with this
podi despite our mother making sambar or chutney. I fondly remember my mother
scolding us sisters for finishing off this podi in no time. As we say, history repeats
and now I find myself reprimanding my daughter for doing the same thing.
If you are a huge fan of molaga podi then you must check these recipes too

Apart from having molagapodi with idli, dosa you can use milagai podi for making Podi sevai and Millet capsicum rice.

MANGO ICECREAM RECIPE | NO EGG | WITHOUT ICE CREAM MAKER

 Mango-ice cream
When I was speaking to my mom few days back, we were talking about mangoes.
Then i remembered about the mango ice cream she used to make for us when we were kids. This mango ice cream does not require ice cream maker and doesn't use eggs too. It can be made with easily available ingredients at home. We kids with our dear cousins enjoy this during our summer vacation.
Since my kids are on vacation now, i wanted to make this for them. This is the first time i am attempting this after marriage.
But my mom will make it with simple ingredients available at home. She learnt this from my Athai.
I made this with ready made mango pulp. Alternatively you can use fresh ripe mangoes.
Update: I made Mango ice cream with Alphonso mangoes and it tasted awesome.
Check out my fresh strawberry ice cream too.
