Cabbage thoran is a yet another popular recipe, which is a must in Kerala Onam sadhya menu. I was planning to call my mami's sister, for this cabbage thoran recipe. But few days back in a birthday pasty i met a friend's wife. She is a native of palakkad. She shared with me this easy cabbage thoran recipe with me. Cabbage 2 cups (finely chopped)
Shallots |ulli | Small onion 7-8
Green chili 1-2
Grated coconut 3 tblsp
Curry leaves few
Ginger 1/2 tsp (grated)
Coconut oil 2 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Urad dal 1/2 tsp
Salt as needed

Cabbage thoran recipe

Green chili 1-2
Grated coconut 3 tblsp
Curry leaves few
Ginger 1/2 tsp (grated)
Coconut oil 2 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Urad dal 1/2 tsp
Salt as needed
Method:
- Chop the cabbage, onions and green chili finely.
- In a wide bowl add the cabbage, chili, coconut,onions, grated ginger, turmeric powder, curry leaves and salt.
- Mix well.
- Leave this for 10 minutes.
- In a pan add coconut oil and add the mustard seeds and urad dal. When the dal turns golden brown add the cabbage mix.
- Cook for 3-4 minutes.
- If there is any water in the curry, cook till it evaporates.
- Cabbage thoran is ready.
- Serve with rasam or sambar.

Notes:
- You can add 1/4 tsp of jeera to the cabbage mixture.
- Finely chopped pods of garlic can also be added.
