Garlic Almond Soup | Soup recipes

Garlic almond soup
Garlic almond soup, is a perfect one for this cold weather. Last year i have given this recipe for Kungumam thozi supplement themed "soups and salads". This recipe was a super hit at our house. I tried this with bottle gourd when i gave this for the supplement book. While i was doing this again for the post last week, i don't have bottle gourd at home and so replaced it with potato. the soup was quite thick and creamy and yum. Name it a creamy potato soup or almond soup or garlic soup, it is a flavourful soup and quite filling too. Try this out at home and let me know how it turned out. I am out of station for the next 10 days. I have scheduled few simple recipes for the next few days. Will respond to your queries and mails once i am back. Thanks for your kind understanding. Check out my other soup recipes.

Rava Upma recipe | Easy breakfast recipe

Sooji upma
Rava upma | Sooji Upma is an easy to make Indian breakfast recipe. But many of them always say they are not a big fan of upmas. But if you ask me i love upmas and rava upma is one among my favourite too. But it took me 6 years to post the recipe of rava upma in my jeyashri's kitchen. I make it once in a week but never thought of clicking this even once. 3 months back when hubby was keen in learning cooking basics, i taught him how to make rava upma. After few attempts he made it perfect. Then when we talking i casually told him this recipe has not been blogged till date and he was surprised. So from that day i was thinking to post here and finally i clicked this last week when i made. I am not satisfied with the pictures though, but trust me it is a perfect recipe. Beginners and bachelors can try this for sure. Check out my rava kichidi recipe and rava dosa recipe
Due to very bad rains in chennai we lost contact with our family in chennai for the past 3 days. The water entered into the house and they moved to first floor. Thank god, finally we spoke to them yesterday and good to know they are safe. But still many parts of chennai are badly hit and lets all pray for them and for sure things will come back to normal soon.

Karthigai Appam recipe | Sweet appam

Sweet appam
I actually wanted to post Vella adai recipe(will post tomorrow ) but while i was talking to my sister we both were casually sharing the memories about the  Karthigai sweet appam which my mom makes for Karthigai deepam. Also she makes it for Janmashtami too. Then only i realised i haven't posted it here. I have posted the wheat appam recipe, the same one she will deep fry. As we used to gobble it when amma makes it. As i am not a big sweet lover, during my childhood days, especially all jaggery based sweets i hate, i love sweet appam one very much. The entire house filled with lights, we all wearing pattu pavadai, amma making appam wearing the traditional 9 yards saree and wearing all the traditional jewellery, this appam reminded me of all special moments. Being a nurse, by profession, she can't wear bright and big nose rings daily, so she wears only during the festival. And she look very beautiful in that traditional costume and the jewellery. So always Karthigai deepam reminds me of this scene in our house in Madurai. Let me share the recipe of Karthigai sweet appam today. Check the Karthigai Deepam collections .

Idichakka Thoran | Raw jack fruit curry

Raw jack fruit -curry
Idichakka thoran is a curry /poriyal made with tender jackfruit or raw jack fruit. In tamil they call it as pala musu. It is the unripe jackfruit. I have heard from my mom's friend that they make kola urundai with this pala musu. Apart from that i have never heard about anything with that. I haven't even tried or tasted this veggie so far. Few months back my mom told me that she made a curry with this idichakka and also added it tasted very nice. Here we get the  cut fresh raw jackfruit . I happened to visit Mustafa center 2 days back and saw this raw jackfruit and picked and came. My friend's mom who taught me the traditional mysore pak, told me the perfect recipe of palakkad style idichakka thoran and it turned out very nice. I was very worried about how it will taste but it tasted very well and a perfect pair with vatha kuzhambhu. Try this at home and let me know how it turned out. I will surely update this post once i get the full raw jackfruit as  how to clean it.
