Tomato Ginger Chutney | Side dish for idli dosa

Tomato Ginger Chutney

Tomato Ginger chutney, is an easy side dish for pesarattu, idli and dosa. Recently we visited a restaurant in Singapore. It is an Andhra restaurant and a friend recommended to try the MLA pesarattu in that restaurant. They served a tomato chutney with this pesarattu and it tasted very nice. Generally i don't prefer ginger much in my cooking but this chutney i liked very much. Somehow managed to find the ingredients present in the restaurant chutney and attempted at home today. It turned out well and tasted similar to the Tomato Ginger chutney we had in the restaurant.

Veg Salna recipe | Parotta salna recipe

Parotta salna is a famous street food in Tamil nadu, espeically in my native town Madurai. Though i have never tasted the salna in road side shops, i used to admire the sound of Kothu parotta and the mesmerizing smell of the salna made in the shops. Most of the salnas are non veg and so i never attempted to try that there. I remember tasting Chilli parotta from a famous road side shop in Madurai, which our friend bought once for us. Recently i got the recipe of vegetarian salna from our neighbor aunty, who gave me the recipe of kuska, kurunai vadai.. Aunty sent me the handwritten recipe through what's app and i tried it immediately the next day. It tasted so yum and we had with Kuska biryani and kids had with store bought frozen parotta. This parotta salna goes well with chapathi too.

Thakkali kichidi | tomato gotsu, a simple side dish for idli| dosa, recipe with video. I recently heard about this recipe of Thakkali kichidi from my friend, during our morning walk. It was tasty and quite different from our usual chutneys. She calls it as thakkali kichidi, you can name it as tomato gotsu, or tomato chutney.. Give your own name, but trust me, the gravy tasted so yummy with dosa. I am sure it will be tasty with idli, pongal and even chapathi poori too.
Later i had some left over gotsu with curd rice and it tasted very well. A simple side dish using tomato, goes well with everything. Try this simple recipe at home and let me know how it turns out.

Mint Coriander Chutney recipe for dosa, idli

Peanut flavored mint coriander chutney, goes well with idli and dosa. Last week while making puliyodarai for lunch box, the peanut box was kept on the kitchen counter. I was busy preparing chutney for dosa on the other side and instead of adding urad dal or channa dal for making the chutney, i added peanuts and turned out so well. Varsha, my daughter is a huge fan of green chutney, loved this peanut flavored mint chutney. Today i made this again to post the recipe of Kothamalli pudina chuntey. I have made a quick video for this chutney recipe too. Check out my collection of Chutney recipes.

Idli Milagai podi with garlic | Side dish for Idli dosa

Milagai podi | Molaga podi is a classic combo for idli|dosa. I have already posted Milagai podi in Jeyashri's kitchen. This is another version of milagai podi with garlic. Usually in our home we do not add garlic in Milagai podi. A friend shared with me this version of idli milagai podi and also shared with me a portion of the same with me. It tasted very well. The original version she told was to add 2 cloves of garlic but i wanted the garlic flavour to be little more and so i added more garlic. Try this out and let me know how it turned out.

As i got a huge pack of  super ripe tomatoes from little India, i thought i will make this easy tomato sambar. I have made a video of tomato sambar too. Kadamba chutney | vegetable chutney is a easy South Indian chutney recipe, made with mixed vegetables. When amma was living in an apartment few years agao, they used to celebrate a festival there. During that time, there will be bulk cooking in a common place for all of them. On the last the day of the festival, they made this kadmaba chutney with all the left over veggies. Hooked by the taste of chutney she asked for the recipe and noted down too. Though i have heard the recipe from her, never attempted to make it at home. Curry leaves chutney recipe |Karuveppilai chutney

Chutney without coconut

Curry leaves chutney | karuveppilai chutney is an easy chutney recipe, with karuvepillai |curry leaves as the main ingredient. I have tried this at home few times for morning breakfast but never had the chance to click the picture to make a post the recipe of chutney. Today i was making batter of kambu dosa for the dinner and thought will make this chutney and keep it for dinner. The vibrant green colour of the chutney attracts kids and it is the best way of making them to include curry leaves into their food. You can also add few mint leaves to this and spread on bread, while making sandwich.
Check out my other chutney recipes.

Hotel sambar recipe | Sambar recipe

hotel sambar

Sambar is the staple in the main coruse menu in all South Indian homes. I have already posted murungakkai sambar, arachuvitta sambar, kalyana sambar and many more in jeyashris kitchen. This sambar recipe is the same recipe in my sambar rice recipe. During my interaction with a marriage caterer for the recipe of vendakkai puli mandi, he told me few tips also and one among them is cooking the spices for the sambar in ghee. I have tried out few times after and it was a super duper hit at home. Varun, my little one who always eats idli | dosa with molagapodi loves this sambar a lot and he drank the remaining sambar in the bowl. Since this sambar is with toor dal, it goes well with rice and tiffin items too.  This exactly tasted like the hotel sambar. If you skip the onions it will taste more like kalyana sambar. Try it out at home and let me know how it turned out. I added mullangi | radish to the sambar.

Side dish for idli| dosa|poori|chapathi

kumbakonam- kadappa
Kumbakonam kadappa| Kadappa , the name itself is quite new for many of us. It is a very simple gravy which pairs very well with Idli, dosapoori | chapathi. I have heard about this a lot from my cousins but never tasted it at home. My mom's side this a very popular gravy. Except my mom every one at her home makes this gravy. Somehow i never had a chance to taste this too even i visited my mam's house. But all my cousins are a very big fan of this kadappa. Recently during our group chat in what's app, one of my cousin who lives in US, searched for Kadappa recipe in jeyashri's kitchen but he couldn't find it. He was telling me about that. I said i never tasted that and also i don't mind posting it if someone here tell me how to make  Kumbakonam kadappa. COCONUT CHUTNEY RECIPE | THENGAI CHUTNEY| SIDE DISH FOR IDLI |DOSA

coconut-chutney
Thengai chutney | coconut chutney | getti chutney, whatever name you call, i love to have this chutney though i am served with any variety of chutney. Whenever we go to Murugan idli kadai, the thengai chutney bucket will be kept of the table, so that the waiter will not have too many visits to my table. Somehow i am not a big fan of my mom's thengai chutney, she add little tamarind to that. Our neighbour aunty makes the coconut chutney very well with several variations. Check the kurunai vadai recipe i learnt from her. Last week, when amma visited aunty i asked her to clarify few doubts from aunty and finally i am confident to write the popular south indian coconut chutney recipe.

Kadalai-paruppu-chutney
Kadala paruppu chutney is yet another yummy and tasty recipe which i learnt from the friend's mil, from whom i learnt the Kola urundai. This chutney is a perfect side dish for idli|dosa.
