Though i have tried once, but vaguely remember about the output. So i wanted to try it once. Since i wanted to make a post, i chose the recipe of kara ammini kozhukattai recipe. Sweet ammini kozhukattai recipe, Ganesh chaturthi recipes

Sweet ammini kozhukattai, mani kozhakattais made using left over kozhukattai dough and sweet poornam. We always make spicy version of ammini kozhukattai and it is my personal favorite too. I have posted 2 varieties of spicy ammini kozhukattai, but want to give it a try on sweet version too. This Ganesh Chaturthi 2018, i wanted to post some simple kozhakattai recipes. Recently i met a bachelor friend, who was telling that she wants to make modak as she loves it but don't have the patience or time to sit and do the shape. I told her to use the modakam mould which is quite easy. She immediately told that she doesn't have the mould too. After coming home, i was thinking about that then the idea of sweet ammini kozhukattai, which i have seen in many websites came to my mind. Definitely in no way it will match the traditional modakam, but to satiate the cravings of the kozhukattai, you can try this one. You can use store bought rice flour or idiyappam flour for making this. If you live in a place where you won't get fresh coconut, you follow the poornam recipe, following my modakam using desiccated coconut. Enjoy the festival without missing the festival food.

Dry fruits poli, How to make poli easy method

No sugar added poli

Dry fruits poli, a no sugar less oil Indian dessert recipe, a healthy version of poli, recipe with step by step pictures. Poli also called as Obattu, Holige, puran poli, vermi in different languages, is a sweet loaded with ghee. The stuffing inside the polis varies from place to place as South Indians, Maharastrians use chana dal and gujaratis use Toor dal. Apart from these traditional polis we also make different varieties of poli with our own creative ideas. I have posted carrot poli, thenga poli apart from the traditional ones with chana dal and the Maharastrian style puran poli. I still remember the way amma and patti makes poli loaded with oil and a super delicious soft polis. They make in huge batches and even distribute to our neighbors too. I don't claim an expert in making polis like the same way she makes, but i can make decent polis. It is more you gain mastery over it by practice. As i do it only once a year for aavani avittam and that too in a very small quantity, my output will not match her level of excellence.
As we all are becoming health conscious and running out of time when any festival falls on a week day. But still we want to follow the traditions too and i am seeing many young girls around the world are so enthusiastic in doing all the delicacies on a festival day.
I am no sure whether diabetic patients can consume dates and nuts, so i don't claim this diabetic friendly sweets but you can call no sugar added sweet. Try this relatively healthy version of poli and enjoy the festival. Also check out my

Angaya podi recipe, Postpartum recipes

Angaya podi recipe, with video and step by pictures. Angaya podi is a traditional recipe made using many healthy ingredients and an important one in postpartum delivery. I adapted this recipe from my athai and my friend's mother law too. This angaya podi can be consumed not only by newly delivered moms but also by anyone in the family. This healthy podi aids in digestion and also a  very good remedy for amebiasis as it has neem flower, sundakkai and manathakkali. I still remember my patti used to make this during the time my sister came to our house for delivery. I used to study in college and my mom and grandmother will force me to eat this angaya podi with rice weekly once. I hate this like anything and will shout at them and move away from that place. Even after i delivered my 2 kids i refused to eat this for more than a week. After making this i started liking it very much and now i am including a tsp of thsi angaya podi in my food daily.I have been receiving reader requests for this angaya podi but somehow i avoid due to the lack of availability of all the ingredients here in Singapore.
Recently found all the ingredients here in Sri Murugan stores Singapore and ordered them and made this angaya podi. Sri Murugan stores has their mobile app and you can download in your Android or iOs phone to order your grocery. They have varieties  of Indian groceries and fresh Indian vegetables too available at reasonable price. The recently opened Sri Murugan Plus is my one stop shop for my monthly Grocery.

Vendakkai Sambar recipe,Ladies finger sambar

Vendakkai sambar, ladies finger sambar recipe, with fresh ground sambar masala. We make Sambar with onion, drumstick, capsicum, yellow pumpkin, brinjal and other veggies. But Vendakkai Sambar is the family's favorite and Suresh loves it the most. Also we use home made sambar powder for making sambar, even it is arachuvitta sambar, we use sambar podi. But i have seen many of my relatives make arachivitta sambar without using sambar podi. I wanted to give this a try for a long time and my co sister's mom clarified my silly doubts and this sambar is a super hit at my place. This recipe is a keeper, you can make this for festivals as it is a no onion no garlic recipe and also doesn't use any mill ground  sambar powder. I was totally hooked by the aroma of the Vendakkai sambar.
Varuthuaracha sambar and udipi sambar  also uses only fresh masala but the coconut is dominant in the sambar masala for one and for the other we add sesame seeds. The taste is completely different for both the sambar.  Even the quantity of one ingredient changes the taste of the entire recipe.

Kalyana Sweet pachadi recipe | Mixed fruits pachadi

Kalyana Sweet pachadi recipe | Mixed fruits pachadi| Pazha pachadi is generally served in Tamil Brahmin weddings. We also serve this during festivals at home. As today is Ugadi festival, i thought i will share this recipe in Jeyashri's Kitchen. I learnt this from a cook mami, who came to our house for cooking, during the time of my son Varun's upanayanam. She used only apple for this pachadi. I have already posted a tomato Sweet pachadi, which is my mom's signature dish. Millet Bisi bele bath recipe | Millet Recipes

Bisi bele bath, using millets with step by step pictures. Bisi bele bath is a popular Karnataka dish, made usingMillets and toor dal and other freshly ground Sambar masala. I have already posted my version of Bisi bele bath recipe with video, but i don't claim it as authentic Karnataka recipe. This Millet Bisi bele bath recipe i have already given in my First cook book on Millets, Neengalum Samaikalam Sirudhaniyam. Recently i tried a slightly different version of bisi bele bath, which i learnt from my co sister.  I have tried this some time back using rice and shared in Jeyashris kitchen Instagram too. I generally use home made sambar powder and fresh spices for making bisi bele bath, but she always uses only fresh masala. I generally don't add cinnamom or clove in Bisi bele bath as my family don't like it that way. Kids love this version too, but today when i made this recipe by replacing millets with rice, i was not sure as how they will respond. They enjoyed the Millet Bisi bele bath and we had Yam Tawa fry and cut mango pickle to pair with this hot hot bisi bela bath | sambar rice.

Narthangai Kuzhambu | Narthangai Pachadi recipe

Narthangai Kuzhambu | Narthangai pachadi is made with Citron, a seasonal fruit. Some people call it as kedarangai too. It is also called as Kaffir lime. This is widely available in South east asia and we South Indians make narthangai rice,Narthangai oorugai(both wet and dry version),Narthangai rasam and this pachadi too. Two weeks back when I went to Chennai for a family function,my mom packed few Narthangai for me. I made pachadi after coming back. The recipe is similar to the Orange peel pachadi recipe.
During my childhood days i somehow don't like this pachadi. My mom, paati and my sister used to love this and me and appa never enjoy this. But somehow after marriage things changed and i started eating this pachadi. My mil's house they don't make this one but she makes the dry narthangai oorugai. I love the way she cuts the fruit using the aruvaalmanai, the traditional cutter. I used up the remaining citron for making panagam,by replacing lemon with narthangai.

Sevai using Sevai nazhi | Idiyappam recipe

Sevai using Sevai Nazhi (சேவை நாà®´ி ,in tamil)Sevai | Idiyappam |String hoppers, is a popular South Indian breakfast or tiffin recipe. During my childhood days amma always makes sevai for tiffin and also it will be extended for dinner too. We never had idiyappam for breakfast. Sevai will always be done using sevai nazhi at out place. It is quite laborious but i still amaze at my mom as how she manages to do this tiring work even at this age with so much of enthusiasm. Though she was a working women, she used to make this sevai, after coming back from her work. Both mom and paati will sit together in the kitchen and do this 'Project Sevai'. this sevai takes place in my mom's kitchen especially when we have guests. Since many will not do sevai using sevai nazhi, she loves to serve them this rare tiffin for them. Recently my mom visited me and her 40 years old sevai nazhi is passed on to me. We are not a big fan of idiyappam or sevai but i wanted to try my hands on making this. Amma makes different varieties of sevai such as Lemon sevai, Thenga sevai, ulundu sevai, Thayir sevai and Vella sevai. When ever i wanted to make sevai, i use the instant ones available in the market.
Though i helped my mom in making this many times, never tried on my own. I don't know how many of you will try this at home, but i want to post this recipe just for my memory and also to kindle the memories of many people reading this post.
Please share your experience in the comments section, if you have seen your mom or grandmother using this sevai nazhi at home.
